HandTutor, Arm Tutor, LegTutor and 3DTutor Assist in Brain Injury Therapy

MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A Michigan rehabilitation clinic is breaking ground after being chosen as part of a new national pilot program to help veterans.
The Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center near Lansing is one of just 21 in the country and four in Michigan to help disabled veterans with traumatic brain injuries.
Retired Air Force Lt. Colonel Bill Fenn served his country for nearly two decades, including service in the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm.
In 2010, Bill Fenn began the fight of his life after suffering a traumatic brain injury. He fell eight feet onto concrete and spent a month in a coma before waking up.
“I said tell me my name, tell me what my name is,” said Fenn’s wife, Glyni Fenn, “and very clearly he said Glyni, so I knew then that we were going to be okay.”
However, Glyni says it has been an uphill battle. She says her husband tires easily and suffers from short term memory loss.
“Sometimes, it feels like there is an ocean between us because of the communication issue,” said Glyni.
Bill came to Origami in February and thanks to the pilot program is able to live there full time, staying close to his family. It allows him to undergo intensive therapy daily and maintain family support. His wife says he is making progress, one day at a time.
When brain injury causes difficulty in movement of body joints the HandTutor, ArmTutor, LegTutor and 3DTutor come in very handy.
The HandTutor, ArmTutor, LegTutor and 3DTutor are devices that are FDA and CE certified and are being used in leading U.S. and foreign hospitals. They have had success in improving movement of the hand, wrist, elbow, knee, ankle, foot and other joints of the body following traumatic injuries. The devices have been effective for post stroke victims as well as for those suffering from Cerebral Palsy, spinal cord and brain injuries, Apraxia, MS, Parkinsons and other movement disabilities. Intensive active exercise can reduce the rate of deterioration and this is what the ”Tutor” devices provide.
The system is also used in physical therapy clinics as well as the patient’s home with tele rehabilitation. The ”Tutors” are suitable for adults and children.
