HandTutor Follows Arthroscopic Wrist Surgery With Success.

Javier Ferreira Villanova and Juan González Del Pino writing in Othopedics and Trauma, November, 2011 explain how
wrist arthroscopy is nowadays a commonly used procedure employed in the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic pathologies, such as triangular fibrocartilage injuries, distal radius fractures, malunions and scaphoid fractures, as well as degenerative conditions such as scapholunate advanced collapse, wrist, Kienböck’s disease and dorsal wrist ganglia cysts. Several procedures have recently been undertaken arthroscopically, such as radial styloidectomy, distal ulnar excision (“wafer procedure”), and proximal row carpectomy.
Wrist arthroscopy has become the “gold standard” for the diagnosis of certain wrist injuries such as scapholunate instability. Compared to open techniques, arthroscopic procedures improve the postoperative management in terms of pain and early movement thus allowing an earlier return to work and resumption of daily living activities.
The rehabilitation techniques following any kind of hand surgery are crucial and probably as important as the procedure itself. The HandTutor is a recently developed device that is currently being used in leading U.S. and foreign hospitals and clinics with great success.
The HandTutor™ system is an active exercise based hand rehabilitation program that uses the accepted methods of impairment oriented training (IOT) with augmented feedback. The HandTutor™ evaluates and treats finger and hand movement dysfunction through exercises that encourage extension/ flexion of the finger(s) and wrist.
The HandTutor™ system consists of a safe comfortable glove, with position and speed sensors that precisely record finger and wrist motion, and dedicated rehabilitation software. The ergonomic gloves come in five sizes for both right and left hands. The rehabilitation system, which also includes the ArmTutor and the LegTutor, employs the known concept of biofeedback to give occupational and physical therapists access to an affordable user friendly hand rehabilitation package. The HandTutor™ can also be used in combination with the 3DTutor™ for arm rehabilitation. The HandTutor™ is CE medical and FDA certified. See www.HandTutor.com
